CMDB

Configuration Management Database: a comprehensive repository of information about IT components.

A CMDB (Configuration Management Database) is a comprehensive repository of information about an organization's IT components (such as computers, servers, and software) and their interdependencies. It enables IT teams to track and manage IT assets, support IT service management processes, and provide valuable input for strategic decision-making.

Key elements of a CMDB include:

  • Configuration Items (CI): Individual configuration elements (servers, applications, licenses, etc.)
  • Relationships: Links and dependencies between different CIs
  • Attributes: Characteristics and properties of each CI
  • History: Tracking changes over time

A well-maintained CMDB is essential for incident management, change management, and impact analysis.
